His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council took part in the inaugural demonstration ride of the Cruise autonomous vehicle (AV) in the Jumeirah 1 area.

In April 2021, it was revealed that Dubai would be the first global market for Cruise, the autonomous vehicle based on the Chevrolet Bolt and majority-owned by General Motors (GM).

During the test ride, Sheikh Hamdan was accompanied by Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), and Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police.

Cruise plans to conduct further demonstration rides for key stakeholders in the Jumeirah area. Additionally, the RTA is set to announce a registration process soon, allowing selected public members to utilize the Cruise ride-hailing app.

The testing of Cruise AVs aligns with Dubai's Strategy for Smart Self-Driving Transport, aiming to transition 25 percent of all mobility journeys in the emirate to self-driving modes by 2030. This demonstration ride signifies a significant stride toward realizing Dubai's vision for a smart and autonomous transportation ecosystem.
