UAQ to Have New Radars to Check for Pedestrian Crossing Violations

The Umm Al Quwain Police has stated that starting on Monday, April 3, new solar-powered, automated radars will be in operation to track and charge drivers who fail to stop at pedestrian crossings.

The radars have reportedly been turned on by the police to lessen the number of run-over collisions and the ensuing loss of life and property brought on by some drivers who fail to halt at crossings for pedestrians.

The action comes after several traffic safety initiatives that were organized by the Interior Ministry. The authority has encouraged drivers to follow the law and yield to pedestrians when walking at zebra crossings.

Drivers who don't give way to pedestrians will be penalized Dh500 and given six black points under the traffic laws.
