UAE VP Identifies Best & Worst Govt Agencies for Change

The UAE’s Vice President, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has revealed the results of the country's bureaucracy removal initiative, highlighting the best and worst-performing government departments.

Top and Bottom Performers in Bureaucracy Reduction

Announcing the rankings on Sunday, Sheikh Mohammed listed the top three government entities excelling in eliminating bureaucratic hurdles:

  • Department of Justice
  • Department of State
  • Department of Energy and Infrastructure

These departments were recognized for their efficiency, responsiveness, and commitment to cutting unnecessary red tape. Sheikh Mohammed praised their efforts, calling them the "top performers" in streamlining processes and improving public services.

On the other hand, the following three government entities were ranked as the worst in reducing bureaucracy:

  • Emirates Post
  • Pensions Authority
  • Ministry of Sports

Addressing their shortcomings, Sheikh Mohammed urged them to take bold and swift action, stating, "Bad systems created by bureaucracy can be changed in just a few days with the right decisions."

A Push for Efficiency and Innovation

The initiative, launched at the end of 2023, was designed to evaluate the efficiency of government services and remove unnecessary administrative barriers. The Vice President emphasized that government bureaucracy often complicates simple processes, prioritizing procedures over results and paperwork over service delivery.

This is not the first time Sheikh Mohammed has publicly assessed government performance. Over the years, he has implemented several measures to improve efficiency, including:

  • 2020 – Launching the 'UAE Mystery Shopper' app to assess service quality.
  • 2024 – Calling out managers who restricted public access to their offices.
  • 2023 – Reviewing customer satisfaction ratings and replacing underperforming officials.
  • 2019 & 2021 – Announcing the best and worst service centres across the UAE.

What’s Next?

With this latest ranking, Sheikh Mohammed continues to push for a more efficient, responsive, and citizen-focused government. His message is clear: bureaucracy should never stand in the way of progress, and government entities must adapt quickly to serve the public better.
