UAE to Gradually Lift Drone Restrictions on This Date

The UAE is set to ease restrictions on drone use, starting November 25, in a phased rollout designed to enhance accessibility while maintaining safety.

Initially, licenses will be issued to companies and government agencies, with future phases expanding services to amateur drone enthusiasts and other users. Specific timelines for these phases will be announced soon.

The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), in collaboration with key partners, is spearheading the initiative. Central to the plan is a unified national drone platform that will simplify registration, regulate operations, and provide clear usage guidelines.

For operational permits, companies, government agencies, and research entities can apply through the UAE Drones mobile app or website. The app streamlines the process, guiding users through each step to gain approval. Operators must ensure their drones are equipped with a remote identification broadcast system. For drones lacking this feature, Etisalat offers tracking devices, which can be requested via email at UAEDrones@eand.com.

Additionally, all drone-related incidents posing risks or causing harm must be reported through the platform’s “Incident Report” feature. This ensures improved safety and safeguards for both individuals and property.

The phased approach reflects the UAE’s commitment to balancing technological innovation with robust safety and regulatory measures, signaling a promising future for drone operations across the nation.
