UAE Approves First Hybrid Heliport Design for Flying Taxis

The UAE is one step closer to bringing flying taxis to life. The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has officially approved the design for the country’s first hybrid heliport, which will be built at the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal in Zayed Port.

A Hub for Both Helicopters and eVTOLs

What makes this heliport special is its dual capability—it’s designed to handle both traditional helicopters and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. These electric aircraft are the same ones set to be used as flying taxis in the near future.

The cruise terminal was chosen as the first location because of its high foot traffic, with over 650,000 visitors arriving at the port each year. It’s already a key travel hub, and officials see it as the perfect place to start introducing air mobility.

Collaboration Behind the Project

The heliport is a result of a partnership between AD Ports Group, Falcon Aviation Services, and US-based Archer Aviation. Together, they’re working to bring electric air transport to the capital.

Test flights are expected to begin in the coming months, as part of a plan to roll out flying taxi services. Archer has also announced that its Midnight aircraft will launch in Abu Dhabi this year through a deal with Abu Dhabi Aviation (ADA).

Flying Taxis Could Soon Be a Reality

This move marks a major milestone in the UAE’s efforts to lead in futuristic transport solutions. With the first hybrid heliport on the way, residents and tourists may soon be catching flights above the city—no runway needed.
