UAE Partners with NASA to Build the First-Ever Lunar Space Station

In a historic agreement, the UAE and NASA have solidified plans for the Lunar Gateway project, marking a significant leap in space exploration. This collaborative initiative involves key global players such as Japan, Canada, and the European Union. The UAE's strategic involvement in the Lunar Gateway aims not only to contribute an essential component but also to propel Emirati astronauts into upcoming moon missions.

The Lunar Gateway's Mission and Timeline

Titled Lunar Gateway, this project aligns with NASA's Artemis program, focusing on sustained moon exploration. By the project's completion, expected by the end of this decade, the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre will supply the mission with a vital element: the airlock, a sealed chamber critical for transitioning in and out of a space station. The first elements of the Lunar Gateway are set for launch in 2025, with the Emirates Airlock scheduled for deployment in 2030.

UAE's Commitment to Global Collaboration

During the official announcement at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi, UAE President HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasized the country's dedication to international collaboration in advancing knowledge and global progress. Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, expressed the groundbreaking nature of the initiative for humanity's return to the Moon, establishing it as a base for future missions toward Mars.
