UAE Author Shortlisted for Int'l Prize for Arabic Fiction

Emirati novelist Nadia Najar has been shortlisted for the 2025 International Prize for Arabic Fiction. 

Najar's 'The Touch of Light' has made it to the shortlist and it explores the Gulf region's past, including the history of Dubai before the discovery of oil. 

The story features a blind narrator who uses special technology to examine the content of photographs. 

Najar has already won various local prizes including the Sharjah Book Fair Award for Best Emirati Book, the Emirates Novel Award, and the Al Owais Award.

The Emirati author's other works include 'The Exile of Memory', 'Cities of Passion', 'The D Trilogy', and the short story collection 'Puzzle Game'.

Najar is in the running for this prize alongside authors from Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and Mauritania. 

The winner will be announced on Apr. 4 in Abu Dhabi and will receive a $50,000 prize.
