Algerian poet and writer Ahlam Mosteghanemi has been named the Cultural Person of the Year for the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) 2024.

Mosteghanemi has been granted this honor because of her contributions and achievements in Arabic fiction. 

Mosteghanemi's work often explores themes of love, identity, and post-colonial Algeria, drawing on her country's turbulent history and its impact on individual lives.

Her novels, such as "Memory in the Flesh", "Chaos of the Senses", and "Bed Hopper", have received widespread acclaim and have been translated into multiple languages, earning her a global readership.

Ahlam Mosteghanemi is recognized for her lyrical style and deep understanding of human emotions, which she weaves seamlessly into narratives that address socio-political issues.

Her work is not just a reflection of Algerian culture but also a broader commentary on the struggles and aspirations of Arab women. 

Mosteghanemi is the first Algerian woman to write in Arabic, making her a trailblazer in contemporary Arabic literature.
