Sharjah Eateries Can Now Apply for Ramadan Food Permits

Sharjah City Municipality has announced that restaurants and food establishments can now apply for special permits to prepare and sell food during Ramadan, including outside sales before Iftar. The Islamic holy month is expected to begin on March 1 and last for 30 days, according to astronomical calculations.

Two Types of Permits Available

Food businesses in Sharjah have two options for permits, each with different fees and conditions:

1. Food Preparation and Sales Permit (Dh3,000)

  • Applies to all food outlets, including those inside shopping malls.
  • Food preparation must take place in the kitchen only.
  • No dine-in service is allowed during fasting hours.
  • Food must be served off-site.

2. Food Display Permit (Dh500)

  • Food can be displayed outside the establishment before Iftar.
  • Displayed food must be stored in non-corrosive metal containers inside a glass box (at least 100 cm high) with a hinged or sliding door.
  • Food must be properly covered and kept at appropriate temperatures.
  • No chilled or frozen food is allowed.
