Sharjah has officially announced Eid Al Fitr holidays for government employees, with a potential six-day break based on the Islamic calendar.
According to the Sharjah Government’s Department of Human Resources, the holiday will run from Shawwal 1 to Shawwal 3, 1446 AH, with work resuming on Shawwal 4 for most employees, except those on shift duty.
The final holiday duration hinges on the moon sighting:
- If Eid falls on Sunday, March 30, public sector employees will enjoy a five-day break from Friday, March 28, to Tuesday, April 1.
- If Eid begins on Monday, March 31, they’ll get a six-day holiday from Friday, March 28, to Wednesday, April 2.
Sharjah’s government sector follows a four-day workweek, with Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays off since January 2022, meaning its employees often enjoy longer holiday breaks.
Meanwhile, the UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources has already announced the official Eid Al Fitr holidays for the wider public sector.
In the UAE, moon sighting will take place on March 29, as Islamic months last either 29 or 30 days. Eid Al Fitr marks the beginning of Shawwal 1, concluding the holy month of Ramadan.
