Homemade Croutons

¼ cup olive oil
2 garlic cloves, smashed
4 cups country bread, cubed (about 8 thick slices)
A pinch of salt
Dried parsley

  1. Prepare the Oven

    Set the oven to 175°C and prepare a large baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper. This step ensures even baking and prevents sticking.
  2. Infuse the Oil

    In a small saucepan, heat olive oil over low heat. Add smashed garlic cloves and let them warm until aromatic, which should take about a minute. Remove the saucepan from the heat, allowing the garlic to infuse the oil.
  3. Prepare the Bread

    Cut the bread into cubes and arrange them on the prepared baking sheet. Take the garlic out of the saucepan, then drizzle the fragrant garlic oil over the bread cubes. Sprinkle with sea salt, toss to evenly coat, and spread the cubes in a single layer for even crisping.
  4. Bake Until Crispy

    Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 10 to 18 minutes. The exact time depends on the type of bread and your desired level of crispiness. Keep an eye on them, turning if needed, until golden brown. Once done, remove from the oven and sprinkle with dried parsley for added flavor.

    For a smoky twist, keep the bread slices whole and drizzle them with olive oil. Grill until lightly charred, then rub a halved garlic clove over the warm bread for extra flavor. Once infused, slice the grilled bread into cubes and serve.
