The Indian Consulate in Dubai has introduced new measures to regulate the repatriation of deceased expats. Aimed at preventing exploitation, the rules now require that only a blood relative or a person with official power of attorney can complete documentation and sign the necessary papers.  

In addition, financial aid from the Consulate for repatriation will now need signatures from five different Indian authorities, including local panchayat offices.

Protecting Families from Fraud  

The Consulate highlighted cases where unauthorized agents have exploited grieving families by charging excessively high fees for repatriation services. “We urge the diaspora to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to fraudulent agents who do not adhere to Consulate-approved rates,” the statement said.  

To support families, the Consulate has partnered with community associations across the UAE. These groups offer repatriation assistance at no additional service charge.
