Jebel Jais Mountain Records 4.3°C, Lowest in the UAE

The UAE experienced its lowest temperature of the season on Tuesday morning, with 4.3°C recorded at Jebel Jais, the country’s highest peak, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). This chilly reading was taken at 3:15 AM, highlighting the onset of cooler conditions across the nation.

Daytime Comfort, Humid Nights

While daytime temperatures remain pleasant, reaching up to 29°C in internal areas, humidity is expected to rise at night. The NCM predicts that the increased moisture could lead to mist formation in some internal regions, particularly during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Cooler Weather with North-Westerly Winds

Dr. Ahmed Habib, a climate expert, explained that cooler air masses, brought in by north-westerly winds, have been lowering temperatures across the UAE since December 16. These winds are expected to result in a drop of 5-7°C, starting in the western areas and gradually affecting the rest of the country.

Winter Officially Starts on December 22

The UAE’s winter season officially begins on December 22. Historically, the coldest days in the country occur between January 16 and 18. According to the traditional Arabian Gulf calendar, winter is divided into two 40-day periods: “Arba in Al Merei” and “Arba in Al Aqrabi”. The first period, beginning on December 28, is typically marked by intense cold and occasional rainfall.

Dry Winters Similar to Past Years

Dr. Habib noted that this year’s winter might resemble past dry seasons, such as those in 2001, with minimal rainfall. While winter generally increases the likelihood of rain, actual precipitation depends on specific atmospheric conditions.

As the UAE enters its colder months, residents can expect cooler nights, misty mornings, and a gradual drop in temperatures, creating a refreshing break from the typically warm climate.
