Here's What Will Happen After Queen Elizabeth II Passing

After the passing of the Queen of the United Kingdom, Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday, the UK government’s plan for what will happen in the coming days after the death of Queen Elizabeth II is codenamed “Operation London Bridge”.

Queen Elizabeth II will lie in state in Edinburgh and Westminster as part of 10 days of national mourning beginning on Friday.

Union flags will be lowered and flown at half-mast on royal residences, government buildings and military establishments and books of condolence opened at British embassies across the world.

Prince Charles

Prince Charles will be known as King Charles III. That was the first decision of the new king's reign. There is also a new title for Charles' wife, Camilla, who becomes the Queen Consort - consort is the term used for the spouse of the monarch.

It is expected that Charles will be officially proclaimed King on Saturday. This will happen at St James's Palace in London, in front of a ceremonial body known as the Accession Council.

The phrase "London Bridge is down" was presumed used to communicate the death of the Queen to the UK Prime Minister and key personnel, setting the next phase of the plan into motion. Parliamentary business is likely to be suspended for 10 days and the sovereign’s coffin is suggested will lie in state for three days at the Houses of Parliament.
