Flydubai Recruits 1k Staff, Achieves Historic Dh2.1B Profit

Flydubai reported a record-breaking profit of Dh2.1 billion in 2023, a 75% increase, driven by robust organic growth amidst industry expansion.

The Dubai-based carrier's total annual revenue surged to Dh11.2 billion, a 23% rise from Dh9.1 billion in 2022. The workforce expanded to 5,545, with over 1,000 new hires in 2023, primarily in roles supporting the airline's growing fleet and network.

Recruits included pilots, cabin crew, and engineers, contributing to the carrier's commitment to doubling the number of UAE Nationals in its workforce. The aviation sector, a key driver of the UAE economy post-pandemic, saw Flydubai carrying 13.8 million passengers, a 31% increase, and launching 17 new routes, expanding its network to 122 destinations in 52 countries.

Flydubai's fleet grew to 84 aircraft, including the first-ever wide-body order of 30 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, diversifying from its all-Boeing 737 fleet. Despite fuel costs constituting 32% of total operating costs due to elevated prices, Flydubai's strategic decisions, including entering ACMI agreements to address delivery delays, contributed to its strongest-ever performance.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Flydubai, praised the airline's solid business model and strategic decisions during challenging times. Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of Flydubai, highlighted the airline's surpassing pre-pandemic levels, achieving its most profitable year in history.

The success is attributed to accelerated aircraft deliveries, workforce preservation, and ambitious expansion plans during the pandemic, positioning Flydubai as a key player in the UAE's aviation industry.
