First Emirati Woman Set to Make History with Space Mission in 2024

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, the Crown Prince of Dubai, has announced that Emirati astronauts Mohammed Al Mulla and Nora Al Matrooshi will undertake pioneering space missions following their graduation in 2024.

“The next phase of our journey will see groundbreaking Emirati space ventures,” Sheikh Hamdan said.

“We aim to be a major player in shaping the future of space exploration. We seek to raise the UAE’s stature in the global space industry with exceptional projects that will bring enduring benefits to humanity.”

Last month, Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi ended his six-month stay aboard the International Space Station and returned to Earth. Nevertheless, the UAE is showing a strong commitment to advancing its space program without delay.

Mr. Al Mulla, a former helicopter pilot with the Dubai Police, and Ms. Al Matrooshi, an engineer who holds the distinction of being the first female Emirati astronaut, were selected as members of the UAE astronaut corps in 2021. Accordingly, they underwent training at NASA's facilities in Houston, Texas.

“By 2024, Mohammed Al Mulla and Nora Al Matrooshi will embark on trailblazing space missions,” Sheikh Hamdan posted on his account on X.
