Expat Cleaner in UAE Awarded Dh100,000 for Outstanding Service

Pameela Krishnan a UAE cleaner originating from Kerala, India, was recognized for her exceptional contributions in the first-ever Emirates Labour Market Awards. Securing the top spot in the Distinguished Workforce - Other Professional Levels category, Pameela received a trophy, certificate, and a token cheque of Dh100,000. The 51-year-old Pameela expressed her astonishment at standing among distinguished guests and government officials during the trophy presentation.

Recognition for Unmatched Dedication

Pameela’s colleague for five years, Sreeja, emphasized the significance of Pameela's nomination, citing her dedication and hard work during her 13-year tenure at a hospital in the UAE. "When Pameela went to collect her award, we were worried that she might be scared, but she was so confident and didn't show any nervousness," said Sreeja. "For us, that moment was as if she was winning an Oscar award."

Financial Boost and Responsible Planning

While the Dh100,000 reward could have potentially prompted thoughts of leaving work, Pameela firmly stated her commitment to continue as long as her boss allows her. Mohammed Salman Faris, another colleague of Pameela, humorously shared an inquiry about her resignation plans after receiving the award. Pameela's immediate response was a resounding no.

Instead, she outlined her financial responsibilities, including loans for house construction, her children's weddings, and gold jewelry purchases. She said she plans to allocate Dh20,000 towards settling loans.

In addition to the Dh100,000 reward, Pameela was given a life insurance policy, a shopping card, a Fazaa card (discount card), a Dh5 gold coin, and a two-night stay at a five-star hotel as part of the recognition.

Expressions of Gratitude

Pameela, expressing deep gratitude to her boss and the UAE, considers the country her second home. Her journey from financial struggles in India to being celebrated in the UAE has been extraordinary. Pameela's reflections touch upon the challenges she faced 13 years ago, working as an Ayurvedic massage center helper for Dh20. Her decision to move to the UAE has not only transformed her family's circumstances but has also allowed her to educate her children and build a house in Kerala.
