Eid Al Adha Predicted Start Date: UAE's Next Public Holiday

As one public holiday in the UAE ends, attention shifts to the anticipated start date of Eid Al Adha, predicted by astronomers.

The Emirates Astronomy Society forecasts that the Day of Arafat, falling on the 9th day of Dhu al-Hijjah in the Islamic lunar calendar, will occur on Sunday, June 16th, followed by the commencement of a three-day public holiday in the UAE for Eid Al Adha.

This alignment with the weekend would grant UAE residents five consecutive days off work if the forecast holds true.

Eid Al Adha itself typically falls on the third day of Hajj, signifying a time of communal celebration.

Last year, the UAE enjoyed a six-day long weekend during Eid Al Adha.

Regarding the upcoming holiday, UAE residents may potentially relish in a five-day public holiday from Monday, June 17th, to Wednesday, June 19th, with a return to work for those with a Saturday-Sunday weekend scheduled for Thursday, June 20th. However, the confirmation of dates hinges on the sighting of the moon.

For those eager to maximize their time off, planning ahead by taking Thursday, June 20th, and Friday, June 21st, off would yield a total of nine days of holiday.

Given that the Islamic Calendar operates on lunar months, confirmation of these dates awaits the sighting of the moon, with official announcements from UAE authorities expected closer to the time.
