Dubai-Riyadh Route Among World’s Top 10 Busiest in 2024

The Dubai-Riyadh air route has been ranked the sixth busiest in the world for 2024, according to UK-based travel data provider OAG. The route recorded 4.306 million seats this year, marking an 8% increase from 2023 and a 34% jump compared to 2019.

Surge in GCC Air Traffic Post Pandemic

The growth in inter-GCC air traffic, often referred to as “revenge travel,” has been remarkable since the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions. Both the UAE and Saudi Arabia have been actively boosting tourism, leading to a surge in flights between the two countries.

Dubai remains the region’s top tourism hub, while Saudi Arabia is heavily marketing destinations like Neom and Al Ula to attract global travelers. UAE airlines have also increased flight frequencies to accommodate the rising demand.

Dubai International Airport (DXB) is poised to set new records in 2024, following a strong performance in the first nine months of the year. This reflects the region’s continued efforts to establish itself as a global travel powerhouse.

Asia Dominates the Top 10 Busiest Routes

Globally, the majority of the top 10 busiest international airline routes are in Asia, with seven routes making the list. The Hong Kong-Taipei route leads the ranking with 6.8 million seats.

Other notable routes include Cairo-Jeddah, which ranks second with 5.5 million seats, and Seoul Incheon-Tokyo Narita, coming in third with 5.4 million seats.

Middle East Routes Shine on the Global Stage

The Middle East is represented by two routes in the top 10, with Dubai-Riyadh leading the way. This highlights the region’s growing influence in global aviation and its role as a key connector for international travelers.
