Dubai Project Achieves 3D Printing for Construction Within 20 Days

Dubai-based Nakheel has marked the completion of 3D printing for the Al Furjan Hills project just 20 days after construction began.

Trakhees, the regulatory body of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, issued the first license for 3D printing technology construction to Nakheel in December 2023.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Chairman of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, emphasized their commitment to implementing Decree No. (24) of 2021, promoting economic growth, environmental sustainability, and urban development through innovative solutions.

He said, “At the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, we are committed to implementing Decree No. (24) of 2021, which regulates the use of 3D printing in the construction sector in Dubai. Through the implementation of this Decree, our objective is to drive economic growth, promote environmental sustainability, and enhance urban development in Dubai by embracing innovative solutions. We also aim to strengthen Dubai's position as a global center for construction, building, and urban development through our collaborations with real estate developers, such as Nakheel.”

Trakhees is pivotal in advancing 3D printing technology adoption in Dubai, aligning with the emirate's goal of having 25% of buildings constructed with 3D printing by 2030.

Bin Sulayem highlighted the importance of staying abreast of technological advancements and sustainability practices, emphasizing 3D printing's eco-friendly nature, reduced environmental impact, and cost-effectiveness. Abdullah Belhoul, CEO of the Department of Planning and Development at Trakhees, highlighted how 3D printing revolutionizes the construction industry, offering precision, speed, and reduced labor costs.

The technology shortens construction project durations by 60%, enhancing efficiency in urban development. Trakhees plans to work with stakeholders to integrate 3D printing into the 'Dubai Building Code,' ensuring compliance with regulations and technical standards while facilitating the implementation of construction projects using advanced techniques.

Overall, the initiative aims to strengthen Dubai's position as a global center for construction and urban development through the adoption of innovative and sustainable technologies.
