Dubai Chef Mussie Imnetu Dies After Attack in London

Mussie Imnetu, the head chef at The Brasserie in Dubai’s The Arts Club, has tragically died after an assault in London. The 41-year-old culinary talent was found unconscious with a severe head injury late Monday night and later succumbed to his injuries in a London hospital.

Chef Mussie, known for his "passion, calm demeanor, and kindness," leaves behind a legacy that touched many in the culinary world. Originally from Eritrea and raised in Sweden, Imnetu had an illustrious career that spanned top kitchens across the globe. Before joining The Arts Club Dubai, he worked at notable venues such as Oblix at The Shard and The Savoy Grill in London, collaborating with culinary giants like Alain Ducasse, Gordon Ramsay, and Marcus Wareing.

In a heartfelt statement, The Arts Club Dubai and London shared their grief: “We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing of Mussie Imnetu, our esteemed head chef at The Brasserie Dubai. His tragic death following a serious assault in London has left a void in our community. Mussie was a pillar of passion and excellence, leading our team with a calm and kind spirit."

Imnetu was not just a chef but a mentor and friend to many. He joined The Arts Club London in 2011 and played a pivotal role in launching the Dubai location in 2020. His employers and colleagues remember him as a well-traveled chef and a devoted father who often relied on his eight-year-old son as his culinary critic.

He had worked with the likes of Gordon Ramsay, Alain Ducasse, and Marcus Wareing before joining The Arts Club Dubai from its sister venue in London.

The suspect, 31-year-old Omar Wilson, has been charged with assault and appeared in Westminster Magistrate’s Court on Friday. The incident occurred outside Dr. Power restaurant in Queensway on the night of August 26.

Mussie Imnetu’s legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his contributions to the culinary world will be remembered fondly. The Arts Club team expressed their deepest condolences, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
