Abu Dhabi Was Ranked Second Most Luxurious Destination in the World

Abu Dhabi has been ranked second in a recent list of the "most luxurious holiday destinations," which is only really shocking because it doesn't give it the gold medal position.

Palaces, hotels that are lowkey palaces, an airline that offers free seating to falcons, gold souks, gold food, supercars and super stars, skyscrapers, desert oases, private islands, daring engineering feats, man-made islands, and castaway spas can all be found in Abu Dhabi.

The ranking on the luxury list is the result of research done by the UK-based gaming website slingo.com, which assigned rankings based on the proportion of five-star hotels in each area. With 22% (more than one in every five hotels) having the highest star rating, Abu Dhabi has a seven point advantage over the next city.

With only seven square miles in size, Bequia, the second-largest island in the Grenadines, doesn't have the largest data set on which to build a study, but it nevertheless takes the top rank (42%). But we're not mad...

Other top 10 cities include Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, Egypt's Sharm El Sheikh, and Cabo San Lucas in Mexico.

But there is much more to Abu Dhabi's assets than just the variety and calibre of its opulent hotels, as its citizens and residents would ardently attest.

The commitment to tolerance, development, and betterment among its leaders; the daily sense of safety enjoyed by its citizens; the assortment of museums, heritage sites, the beaches, the restaurants, golf courses, malls, theme parks, the actual parks; and the varied landscape, including the ocean of dunes, the islands, and the highlands.

Abu Dhabi may be the ideal destination for a lavish vacation, but its worth as a tourism destination goes beyond the surface.
