Abu Dhabi Cuts Speed Limits on 2 Key Roads Starting April 14
Abu Dhabi permanently lowers speed limits on major highways by 20km/h to improve road safety
- Publish date: Thursday، 10 April 2025 Last update: since 2 day

Starting April 14, drivers in Abu Dhabi will need to slow down on two major roads. Authorities have officially reduced the speed limits by 20km/h as part of a permanent traffic regulation change.
The new limits are:
-
E20 (Abu Dhabi–Sweihan Road): now 100km/h, down from 120km/h
-
E11 (Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed International Road): now 140km/h, down from 160km/h
Not just for bad weather anymore
While temporary speed limit reductions are common during fog, dust storms, or heavy rain, this latest update is not weather-related. Instead, it’s a long-term move aimed at enhancing safety on roads with high traffic volume and fast-moving vehicles.
Why this matters
Abu Dhabi’s roads are known for high-speed traffic, especially on long stretches like the E11. By slowing things down, the authorities are hoping to cut down on serious accidents and make driving safer for everyone.
Bottom line
If you're commuting daily or heading out on a road trip soon, keep the new limits in mind. The changes are permanent, and sticking to the updated speeds will help you stay safe—and avoid fines.
