UAE Sends Aid to Philippines After Super Typhoon Carina

The Philippines recently received a generous aid package from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to help families affected by Super Typhoon Carina. The donation was announced by Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr.

UAE Government and Officials Hand Over Aid

The aid handover ceremony included UAE Ambassador to the Philippines, His Excellency Mohamed Obaid Salem Alqattam Alzaabi, Special Envoy to the UAE Kathryna Yu-Pimentel, and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian. During the event, DILG Secretary Abalos expressed gratitude to the UAE for their support, saying, “We extend our heartfelt thanks to the UAE government for their compassion and assistance to our fellow citizens.”

Relief Efforts and Donations

DSWD Secretary Gatchalian noted that the UAE donated 80 tons of various goods to be distributed by local government units (LGUs). This aid will support those who were hit hard by the recent disaster.

Overseas Filipinos in the UAE also voiced their thanks for the support. Comments on social media included, “Honor and gratitude from Filipinos all over the UAE” and “Thank you, UAE! My second home. God bless!” reflecting the deep appreciation of the Filipino community.

On July 24, 2024, Typhoon Carina, combined with the southwest monsoon, caused severe flooding in parts of Metro Manila.
