UAE Launches New Polymer Dh100 Banknote

The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has unveiled a brand-new Dh100 polymer banknote, officially entering circulation today, March 24.

Designed with state-of-the-art security features and sustainable materials, the new currency aims to enhance durability and consumer confidence while reflecting the UAE’s rich heritage and modern achievements.

This latest issue will circulate alongside the existing Dh100 banknotes, with all banks and exchange houses instructed to update their cash deposit machines and counters to seamlessly accept the new design.

Eye-Catching Design with UAE Landmarks

The updated banknote retains the signature red color but incorporates modern printing techniques, giving it a refreshed look. The front side features the iconic Um Al Quwain National Fort, symbolizing the UAE’s historical roots, while the reverse side showcases the Port of Fujairah, a key hub in global shipping, and Etihad Rail, the railway project connecting all seven emirates and the GCC countries.

The Etihad Rail is a symbol of connectivity and sustainability, reflecting the nation’s push toward economic integration and environmental progress.

Advanced Security and Accessibility Features

To combat counterfeiting, the polymer Dh100 incorporates cutting-edge security technologies, including SPARK Flow DIMENSIONS and KINEGRAM COLORS, which enhance the note’s visual and tactile elements. Braille symbols have also been added to assist blind and visually impaired users in easily identifying the note’s value.

Why Polymer?

Polymer banknotes are known for their eco-friendliness and durability, lasting two to three times longer than traditional paper notes. This makes them more sustainable and cost-effective in the long run.

Part of the UAE’s Currency Modernization

The new Dh100 is part of the CBUAE’s Third Issuance of the National Currency Project, which aims to highlight the UAE’s cultural identity and developmental milestones. This follows the successful rollout of the Dh500 and Dh1,000 polymer banknotes, which won international recognition at the 2023 and 2025 High-Security Printing EMEA conference.

Celebrating Eid with a Special Launch

Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the CBUAE, shared the significance of the launch:
“The new Dh100 banknote reflects our commitment to the leadership's vision for a sustainable future through initiatives and achievements that support Net Zero and enhance the nation's financial competitiveness. Its design embodies the country's ambitious aspirations for future progress and prosperity while honoring its historical and cultural heritage. We are pleased to announce this special issue in conjunction with the Eid Al Fitr celebrations.”
