UAE Expresses Concern Over Rising Violence in Sudan

His Excellency Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, has voiced the UAE’s profound concern regarding the escalating violence in Sudan, especially the alarming situation affecting women, children, and the elderly in Al Jazirah state. Recent reports indicate that this violence has resulted in the tragic loss and injury of many innocent civilians.

The Minister highlighted the distressing accounts of sexual violence against women and girls and the heightened risk of famine that many face. Thousands of civilians continue to suffer and are displaced, creating a dire humanitarian crisis that demands immediate attention.

In his remarks, Sheikh Shakhboot called on the conflicting parties in Sudan to engage in dialogue. He urged them to respect their commitments under the Jeddah Declaration and adhere to the guidelines set forth by the Aligned for Advancing Lifesaving and Peace in Sudan (ALPS). These guidelines aim to ensure safe, urgent, and unhindered access to humanitarian aid, which is crucial for those affected by the violence.

Moreover, His Excellency emphasized the necessity for all parties to comply with international humanitarian law, underscoring the importance of protecting civilians during conflicts. “Civilians should never be targets in times of war,” he stated, reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to humanitarian principles.
