UAE Declares Eid Al Fitr 2024 Holidays for Private Sector

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced that private sector employees will be granted a paid holiday from Monday, 29 Ramadan (8 April 2024) to 3 Shawwal, in celebration of Eid Al-Fitr.

Duration of Break Depends on Ramadan's Duration

The duration of the break hinges on the duration of Ramadan, which can last either 29 or 30 days. If Ramadan lasts 29 days, residents will enjoy a six-day break for Eid, starting from Monday, April 8 (Ramadan 29) to Thursday, April 11.

For those with a Saturday-Sunday weekend, this means a six-day hiatus, with work resuming on Friday, April 12.

However, if Ramadan extends to 30 days, the Eid break will span from Monday, April 8 (Ramadan 29) to Friday, April 12 (Shawwal 3). Consequently, individuals with a Saturday and Sunday weekend will relish a nine-day break, with work resuming on Monday, April 15.

Awaiting Confirmation from Authorities

The Islamic Calendar, which governs these dates, operates on lunar months. Therefore, confirmation of these dates in the Gregorian calendar awaits a sighting of the moon in a specific phase. UAE officials will provide confirmation closer to the time.
