UAE Charity Gives 400 Books to Palestinian Children

As part of its mission to empower underprivileged children and support their right to read, Kalimat Foundation (KF), a UAE-based non-profit organization, has donated 400 Arabic-language books to Palestinian children residing in Emirates Humanitarian City (EHC) in Abu Dhabi. This initiative aligns with UAE Reading Month and reflects the foundation’s commitment to fostering literacy and education.

A Heartfelt Visit Led by Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi

The donation took place during a visit to EHC, led by Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Vice President of the Kalimat Foundation Board of Trustees. She was welcomed by Mubarak Falah Al Qahtani, the official spokesperson for Emirates Humanitarian City, alongside Amna Al Mazmi, Director of Kalimat Foundation, team members from the foundation, and representatives from Multiply Group—the Abu Dhabi-based investment holding company that generously funded the donation.

‘Pledge a Library’ Initiative: Bringing Books to Those in Need

This donation is part of the ‘Pledge a Library’ initiative, which ensures children have access to knowledge and supports their educational journey. As part of this effort:

  • Portable libraries filled with books catering to different age groups were donated.
  • Engaging activities, including interactive workshops, recreational events, and cultural sessions, were held.
  • The visit welcomed 50 children aged 6 to 10, encouraging a love for reading and intellectual development.

Strengthening Humanitarian Support and Education

The initiative reinforces Kalimat Foundation’s dedication to ensuring children, especially those in crisis situations, have access to books and educational opportunities. It also highlights Emirates Humanitarian City’s role as a comprehensive support system for displaced individuals from conflict zones, addressing their educational, cultural, medical, and recreational needs.

Books and Interactive Sessions for Children

As part of the donation:

  • Two portable libraries with 200 Arabic-language books were gifted to EHC’s school.
  • One portable library with 100 Arabic books was provided to the nursery.

An additional 100 books were given to children who attended an interactive reading session with journalist and children’s book author Samia Ayish, who read from "Aashat Al-Sheen," published by Kalimat Group.

Creative Contributions: Handmade Dolls and Workshops

The visit also included a special contribution from Sahar Wahbeh, creative designer and founder of “Dumyé.” She gifted handmade customized dolls to nursery children and conducted a doll-making workshop for school children, enhancing their creativity, sensory skills, and communication abilities in an engaging educational setting.

Kalimat Foundation’s Ongoing Commitment to Palestinian Children

Amna Al Mazmi, Director of Kalimat Foundation, reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to supporting Palestinian children affected by the war on Gaza. She stated:

“At Kalimat Foundation, we take pride in contributing to the UAE’s vision, which places education and knowledge at the heart of its development efforts. Providing access to education for underprivileged children is not just a humanitarian duty but an investment in a brighter future. We firmly believe that every child has the right to access knowledge and cultural resources, no matter the challenges they face.”

This donation builds upon Kalimat Foundation’s continued efforts to support Palestinian children. Previously, through the Ara Initiative, the foundation has provided accessible books for blind and visually impaired children in Palestine. Additionally, the “Stitching Hope for Gaza” merchandise line, launched in April 2024, has contributed proceeds to the “Tarahum for Gaza” campaign.

A Lasting Impact on Education and Cultural Identity

Kalimat Foundation’s dedication to empowering children through reading and education remains unwavering. By ensuring access to books, fostering creativity, and preserving cultural identity, the foundation continues to play a vital role in supporting children in crisis-affected regions, creating a lasting impact on their futures.
