RTA Opens Two New Bridges to Ease Traffic Flow in Dubai

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) opened two key bridges on Sunday to enhance traffic flow as part of the Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road Intersection Improvement Project.

Bridge Details

The first bridge, which spans 601 meters, consists of two lanes and is designed to handle 3,200 vehicles per hour. It directs traffic from Garn Al Sabkha Street towards Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, facilitating movement northward to Al Qusais and Deira.

The second bridge, also a two-lane structure, stretches 664 meters and is built to ease traffic merging from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Yalayis Street, heading towards Jebel Ali Port. It has the same capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour and helps eliminate traffic congestion from this critical route.

Time Saving Benefits

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA, highlighted the project’s efficiency in reducing travel times. Once complete, the bridges will cut travel time from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road by 40%, decreasing it from 20 minutes to just 12 minutes during peak hours. For those traveling from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Yalayis Street, the time is expected to be reduced by 70%, from 21 minutes to 7 minutes.

Broader Road Improvements

In addition to the bridges, the project involves extensive roadworks covering seven kilometers, upgrades to surface intersections on the service road, and improvements to essential infrastructure such as streetlights, traffic signals, stormwater drainage, and irrigation systems.
