RTA Cuts Umm Suqeim Street Traffic by 40% with New Roads

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently completed significant traffic enhancements on Umm Suqeim Street, unveiling a new road leading directly to Kings' School. This 500-meter, two-lane road connects the school's entrances to a newly constructed detour in the area, significantly improving the entry and exit of vehicles. Thanks to this upgrade, traffic congestion on Umm Suqeim Street has been reduced by up to 40% during peak hours.

Part of RTA's 2024 Traffic Improvement Plan

These improvements are part of RTA's Quick Traffic Improvement Plan 2024, demonstrating their commitment to enhancing Dubai’s road network. The initiative focuses on easing traffic flow, increasing road capacity, and supporting the city's sustainable growth. Additionally, the project aims to improve traffic safety standards for all road users, with a particular focus on school transport and the safety of parents and children.

Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project: Enhancing Connectivity

Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at the Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA, highlighted the broader scope of the Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project. Spanning 4.6 kilometers from the Al Khail Road intersection to the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road intersection, this project enhances connectivity across four major traffic corridors in Dubai: Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road. These enhancements are set to increase the street’s capacity by 30%, allowing up to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions.

Temporary Parking Slots for School-Goers

As part of the recent improvements, the RTA has also allocated 200 temporary parking slots specifically for the 2024-2025 academic year to accommodate school-goers, including teachers and parents. This initiative aims to ensure orderly parking and prevent random parking, which often leads to congestion and delays. By upholding the highest traffic safety standards, these measures not only enhance public satisfaction but also contribute to making Dubai the best city for living in the world.

A Step Towards a More Efficient and Safe Road Network

With these strategic enhancements, the RTA continues to lead the way in creating a more efficient, safe, and sustainable road network in Dubai.
