American linguist, intellectual, and dissident Noam Chomsky was discharged from a Sao Paulo hospital in Brazil on Tuesday, Jun. 18.
The intellectual will continue an undisclosed treatment at home. The news came after rumors circulated on social media that Chomsky had passed away.
His wife Valeria Wasserman dispelled these rumors by writing to the Associated Press (AP), "It’s false. He is well."
The linguist suffered a stroke a year ago, which left him with a difficulty to speak and to move the right side of his body.
The couple have had a home in Brazil since 2015. Noam Chomsky is well-known as the father of modern linguistics, an important figure in analytic philosophy, and one of the founders of the field of cognitive science.
He also spoke out on various issues including US foreign policy, labor rights, and Zionism.
