How has the rise of smart home devices transformed caregiving for both elderly individuals and children in recent years?

In recent years, the rise of smart home devices has helped customers to better protect what matters most to them. From real-time motion notifications to two-way audio, customers can check-in and speak to their elderly loved ones or children at any time with the simple Ring app, for added peace of mind

At Ring, we offer advanced features through our new and improved Ring Home subscription plans that are designed to help you see more, know more, and protect more and offer three plan tiers including Home Basic, Home Standard, and the brand-new Home Premium tier. With these subscription plans, customers can save, share, and download video recordings of any detected events in their account for up to 180 days. Video Preview Alerts provide a short video clip preview of the device’s motion alerts and will be available with Ring Home Basic, Standard, and Premium plans. In addition, Ring Home Standard and Premium subscribers can now enjoy Doorbell Calls, which rings your phone, like a video call, when someone rings the doorbell. Ring Home Standard also includes Extended Live View, allowing users to watch their camera feed live for up to 30 minutes. With Ring Home Premium, and 24/7 Recording enabled, customers can also watch the feed for longer with Continuous Live View, available on Ring Stick Up Cam, Stick Up Cam Pro, Indoor Camera (2nd Gen) and Pan-Tilt Indoor Camera.

Also, to provide our users with an improved and more convenient home security experience, our devices can be integrated with compatible Alexa-enabled devices with features such as voice control, real time alerts and routine creation.

Privacy is a major concern with connected devices. How can families ensure their data is protected when using smart home technology?

We always prioritize the safety and security of our customers. Privacy, security, and control are at the forefront when developing our products. In the Ring app, customers can use Control Centre, an easy-to-use dashboard, to view and control their privacy and security settings. We’ve also put features in place across all our devices to ensure privacy, security, and user control remain front and centre – including customizable Privacy Zones to block out "off-limit" areas, Motion Zones to control the areas customers want their Ring device to detect motion, and Audio Toggle to turn audio on and off. 

Customers can also opt-in to video End-to-End Encryption which means they can add an extra layer of security that only allows their videos to be viewed on their chosen mobile device. We also use enhanced account security measures, such as mandatory two-factor authentication and login notifications which inform users if a new device or browser logs into their account.
