Dubai to Build 5 New Bridges at Trade Centre Roundabout

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is set to build five new bridges over the Trade Centre Roundabout, aiming to ease traffic at one of the city’s busiest intersections. This project, worth AED 696.4 million, will link Sheikh Zayed Road to major roads, including Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, Sheikh Rashid Street, 2nd December Street, Zabeel Palace Street, and Al Mustaqbal Street.

With a combined span of over 5,000 meters, these new bridges are designed to double the intersection’s traffic capacity, cut delay times from 12 minutes to just 90 seconds, and reduce travel time from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street from six minutes to one.

Enhancing Traffic Flow in Central Dubai

The Trade Centre Roundabout, a significant hub for Dubai’s road network, will be transformed into a surface-level intersection to enable smoother flow for inbound traffic from Sheikh Zayed Road towards 2nd December Street and for southbound vehicles from Al Mustaqbal Street.

Additional upgrades will make it easier to drive through key routes:

- Free-flowing access from 2nd December Street to Al Majles Street and Al Mustaqbal Street, connecting the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).

- Seamless connections from Sheikh Rashid Street to Deira, improving overall traffic efficiency.

Capacity and Community Impact

Expected to serve over half a million residents and visitors, this project will benefit communities including DWTC, DIFC, Zabeel, Al Satwa, Karama, Jafiliya, and Mankhool. The new structures are projected to support 15,000 vehicles per hour across three major routes.

Breakdown of the New Bridges

- Bridge 1: A 1,000-meter, two-lane bridge from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street, accommodating 3,000 vehicles per hour.

- Bridges 2 & 3: Two 2,000-meter, two-lane bridges linking Sheikh Rashid Street with 2nd December Street, with a combined capacity of 6,000 vehicles per hour.

- Bridges 4 & 5: Two additional two-lane bridges, also 2,000 meters long, to connect Al Majles Street to 2nd December Street, handling up to 6,000 vehicles per hour.

Part of a Broader Development Plan

This initiative is part of Dubai’s wider plan to enhance the city’s road infrastructure. The RTA will further its efforts with the Al Mustaqbal Street Development Project, set to begin in November.
