Dubai Private Schools Allowed Fee Increase of Up to 5.2%

Private schools in Dubai have been granted permission to increase their fees by up to 5.2 per cent for the upcoming academic year, depending on their performance in the latest annual inspections conducted by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA). The announcement follows KHDA's release of an Education Cost Index (ECI) of 2.6 per cent, which serves as the basis for schools to adjust their fees for the 2024-25 academic year.

Fee Increment Calculations

Schools advancing from 'Weak' to 'Acceptable' or 'Acceptable' to 'Good' can raise fees by up to double the ECI, totaling 5.2 percent.

Institutions progressing from 'Good' to 'Very Good' may increase fees by up to 1.75 times the ECI, amounting to 4.55 percent.

Schools elevating their rating from 'Very Good' to 'Outstanding' could hike fees by up to 1.5 times the ECI, reaching 3.9 percent.

Maintaining the same inspection rating permits fee increments of up to 2.6 percent.

Basis of Education Cost Index

The Education Cost Index, derived from the financial statements of private schools, outlines operational costs and is devised in collaboration with the Digital Dubai Authority. This year marks the second consecutive allowance for fee increases following a three-year freeze (2020-2023) due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In the previous academic year (2023-24), schools were permitted fee hikes of up to 6 percent.
