Dubai Police Unveils New E-Scooter Safety Guidelines

In a bid to bolster road safety, Dubai Police has released a fresh set of safety guidelines for e-scooter riders following a recent crackdown that saw 640 e-scooters, e-bikes, and bicycles impounded this month.

The new social media video from Dubai Police underscores the city's commitment to promoting safe and responsible use of eco-friendly transportation modes, such as e-scooters, which have surged in popularity for navigating traffic congestion.

Key Safety Tips for E-Scooter Riders:

  • Wear Safety Gear: Helmets and reflective vests are crucial for visibility and protection.
  • Stick to Scooter Lanes: Avoid interference with vehicles and pedestrians by using designated lanes.
  • No Passengers Allowed: Maintain balance and control by not carrying extra riders.
  • Stay Alert: Avoid headphones to stay aware of your surroundings.

The video also delves into the common causes of e-scooter accidents, such as ignoring traffic laws, exceeding the 60 km/h speed limit, and not wearing appropriate safety gear. Other frequent issues include riding against traffic flow and inadequate technical specifications on vehicles.

Penalties for Violations:

  • Dh300 Fine: Riding an e-bike or bicycle on roads with speed limits over 60 km/h, endangering others, or carrying passengers on e-scooters.
  • Dh200 Fine: Transporting passengers on inadequately equipped e-bikes or bicycles, or riding against traffic.

Dubai Police encourages residents to report unsafe behavior via the ‘Police Eye’ feature on the Dubai Police app or by calling ‘We Are All Police’ at 901.

As Dubai continues to champion sustainability with its eco-friendly transport options, adhering to these guidelines will ensure a safer and more enjoyable experience for all road users.
