Expanding Green Spaces Across Dubai
In addition to the tree planting, Dubai Municipality has expanded the city’s green spaces by 391.5 hectares, or 3.9 million square meters, in 2024. This is a remarkable 57% growth from 2023, aligning with the goals of the Urban Environment pillar under the ‘Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033.’ These initiatives are aimed at boosting the city's greenery while ensuring that nature is incorporated into the urban landscape.
Greening Initiatives and Beautification Projects
Dubai's greening projects also included the planting of 5.3 million flower seedlings and the replacement of 45 million seasonal flowers over the year. The Municipality undertook 165 beautification projects as part of the Dubai Green Project. These projects targeted various areas, including residential neighborhoods, urban spaces, roads, parks, and recreational facilities. The goal is to increase cultivated green areas and provide more accessible green spaces for residents.

Key Urban Projects and Tree Varieties
Dubai Municipality’s 2024 greening projects focused on high-traffic areas like Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Jamayel Street, and Al Khawaneej Street, among others. These initiatives were also extended to residential areas like Mirdif, Al Barsha, and Al Mizhar, helping enhance the city's aesthetic appeal.
A wide variety of trees were planted throughout the year, including indigenous species like Ghaf, Sidr, and Samar, as well as ornamental trees such as neem, olive, and Indian jasmine. Evergreen species like Washingtonia and Bismarckia were also introduced, contributing to the city’s green canopy.

Sustainable Practices and Advanced Technology
Dubai Municipality is also integrating advanced agricultural technologies in its greening efforts. A sustainable irrigation system using recycled water has been implemented, reducing water consumption and ensuring the longevity of the city’s green spaces. In 2024, the Municipality’s Warsan Nursery produced 48.13 million seedlings, which supported these greening projects and contributed to Dubai’s growing green spaces.
Dubai’s Green Growth Over the Years
Dubai Municipality’s efforts to expand green spaces have been incredibly successful. Since 2011, green spaces under its supervision have more than doubled, surpassing 52 million square meters by the end of 2024. Additionally, the number of trees planted annually has surged, from 35,666 in 2017 to an impressive 216,500 in 2024.
Badr Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality, emphasized the importance of these initiatives, saying, “The beautification and planting projects reflect our commitment to enhancing sustainability and the aesthetic appeal of Dubai.”
Through its comprehensive greening efforts, Dubai is not only preserving its urban character but also ensuring a more sustainable, livable city for the future.
