AI to Create 97 Million Jobs by 2025, Says UAE Expert

The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) is set to revolutionize the workforce, creating 97 million new jobs by 2025 while simultaneously displacing millions of traditional roles due to automation. This insight was shared by Latifa Alshehhi, Director of the Investment Data Department at the UAE’s Ministry of Investment, during the Knowledge Summit held on Monday.

Alshehhi emphasized that AI’s transformative potential offers as much promise as it does disruption. “AI isn’t something to fear; it’s a tool we need to embrace,” she said, pointing to emerging roles like AI trainers and robotics specialists.

Preparing for an AI-Driven Economy

To thrive in this changing landscape, equipping the workforce with relevant skills is essential. Alshehhi stressed the importance of upskilling and accessible tech education for all age groups. Sharing a personal anecdote, she highlighted how even her grandmother has adopted basic AI tools, showcasing the importance of making technology user-friendly for everyone.

Initiatives in the UAE, like the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, are already addressing these needs by fostering specialized education in AI. Such programs aim to prepare future professionals for the evolving demands of an AI-integrated economy.

The Global Push for Ethical AI Adoption

During the same session, Dr. Ayman El-Sherbiny, Chief of ICT Policies at ESCWA, called for governments and private sectors to collaborate on building ecosystems that balance AI innovation with ethical considerations.

“The future belongs to countries that embrace AI responsibly,” he said, advocating for national policies and regional cooperation to ensure ethical and sustainable AI development. He argued that shared frameworks across countries would maximize AI’s potential while mitigating risks.

New Roles and Industries Emerge

AI is expected to introduce a wide range of new professions, including:

- AI Trainers: Teaching machines to interpret human data.

- Robotics Specialists: Designing and maintaining automated systems.

- Data Analysts: Managing and interpreting vast datasets.

- New Sector Innovators: Professionals in industries yet to emerge as technology advances.

While automation may replace some jobs, the opportunities brought by AI highlight the need for societies to adapt and innovate. As Alshehhi put it, “The key is not to resist change but to prepare for it.”
