Eid El Fitr comes exactly after Ramadan, in which Muslims celebrate ending their fast. There are many Eid responsibilities and duties Muslims must act, such as Zakar Al Fitr and Eid Al Fitr prayer. What is Eid Al Fitr Prayer? How and when to pray it? Find out in this article.  

What is Eid Al Fitr Prayer?  

Eid al-Fitr is a celebration marking the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting, welcoming the new month of Shawwal. Muslims Start Eid Al Fitr with Eid Al Fitr Prayer, Salat Eid Al Fitr in Arabic, where they get dressed in new clothes as this act is Sunnah.  

Eid Al Fitr Prayer is 2 raka'a, followed by a speech such as Juma'a Prayer speech and there is no Sunnah Prayer before or after Salah Al Eid.  

Where to Pray Salat Eid Al Fitr?  

Muslims can pray Eid Al Fitr Prayer either in Musala Al Eid, an open space area organized specifically for Eid Prayer, or go to any mosque near their house. 

Eid Al Fitr Prayer Time 

Salat Al Eid or the Eid Prayers can be offered any time after the Fajr prayers and before noon. Note that it is Sunnah to delay Eid Al Fitr Prayer time so Muslims can pay for Zakat Al Fitr, which has to be paid before Eid's Prayer.

Can Women & Children Go to Eid Prayer? 

Yes. Eid al Fitr Prayer is for all members of the Muslim community, including women and children.  

Eid Al Fitr Prayer Sunnah

  • Have breakfast before Eid Al Fitr Prayer, despite Eid Al Adha Prayer where the Sunnah is to have breakfast after the prayer. 
  • Eat an odd number of dates before going to Salat Al Eid.
  • Going to the mosque walking and walking slowly. 
  • Go to the mosque from away and choose a different way when getting back home.
  • Don’t leave Eid Mosque before Imam.
  • There is no Sunnah Prayer before or after Eid Prayer. 
  • Get clean and neatly dressed up for Eid Prayer. 
  • It’s Sunnah to Pray in Eid Musallah instead of Mosques.
  • Al Takber while going to the Mosque with Takberat Al Eid.
  • It is Sunnah for women and children to go for Salat Al Eid. 

What is Takberat Al Eid?  

“Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, La ilaha illallah, Wallahu akbar, Allahu akbar wa lillahil hamd”  

And the translation of Takberat Al Eid is: 

“Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest, there is no god but Allah. And Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest and to Allah belongs all praise.”
