Women's T20 World Cup Moved from Bangladesh to the UAE

The Women’s T20 World Cup, initially set to take place in Bangladesh this October, has been relocated to the UAE. The decision comes in response to escalating political unrest and violence in Bangladesh, which has led several participating countries to issue travel advisories against visiting the nation.

Bangladesh's Political Turmoil Forces Change

The move was confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday, citing concerns over the safety of players and officials. The turmoil in Bangladesh has intensified in recent weeks, leading to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fleeing the country, with an interim government now in place under Muhammad Yunus.

"It's unfortunate that the Women’s T20 World Cup cannot be held in Bangladesh as planned," stated ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice. "However, the safety of our teams is paramount, and with travel advisories in place, it was not possible to proceed with the tournament there."

UAE Steps in as Host

The tournament will now be held in Dubai and Sharjah from October 3 to 20. This marks the ninth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup, with 10 countries competing. The UAE, which hosts the ICC headquarters, has become a key location for cricket, having previously hosted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2021, alongside Oman.

Despite the relocation, the ICC expressed its intention to bring an international cricket event to Bangladesh in the near future, retaining their hosting rights for a later date.
