The Races
The Gold Cup might be Dubai’s most famous horse race, but for a true cultural experience you need to head out past Meydan to the Al Marmoom Heritage Village in the Al Lisaili area. The camel racing season runs from October to April 2020, and everyone is welcome to come and watch for free. It’s an early start, but the adventurous will be rewarded with an exhilarating display of galloping dromederies. The camel owners are notoriously friendly and proud of their beasts, so you’re guaranteed to get at least one snap for Instagram.

The Camel Farm
This child-friendly establishment does exactly what it says on the tin. The owners offer a variety of authentic Bedouin activities, including half hour rides through the desert, the chance to feed the camels, and for the true fan, hugging therapy sessions. Animal-loving children will love petting the other creatures on site, and they can feed the baby goats, sheep and rabbits. The farm is open every day, but make sure you call in advance to book.

If you’ve ever wondered what camel milk tastes like, or craved to feed a camel a carrot from your mouth, you need to add Camelicious to your bucket list. This working farm is owned by none other than Sheikh Mohammed, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, and it's the largest in the world. Organising a trip takes a bit of time, as you need to sign up online, but visitors are rewarded with a thorough tour around the milking parlour, camel pens and processing plant. You can even finish off the trip with a tub of camel milk ice-cream.
