Virat Kohli Fined After Sam Kontsas Clash in Test Match

Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has been fined 20 percent of his cricket match fees after he bumped shoulders with Australian debutant opener Sam Kontsas in the test match in Melbourne on Thursday, Dec. 26.

Kohli and Kontsas exchanged words with each other, which led to Kontsas' opening partner Usman Khawaja and the umpire Michael Gough to intervene.

Kontsas was batting at that time and went on to hit Jasprit Bumrah for two boundaries and a six in the next over.

The match referee, Andy Pycroft, found Kohli in breach of the International Cricket Council’s code of conduct relating to inappropriate physical contact.

The ICC said in a statement, "No formal hearing was needed as Kohli accepted the sanctions proposed by match referee Andy Pycroft."

Virat Kohli also received one demerit point, but he is allowed to play the fifth and final test match in Sydney.

A debate arose because of the issue with Ricky Ponting and Michael Vaughan saying that Kohli was the one in the wrong and that Pycroft should have investigated the matter further.

However, Kontsas' responded to the situation by saying, "I think emotions got to both of us. I didn't realise. I was just doing my gloves when I got the little shoulder charge but it happens in cricket."
