The US, European Union, and the UAE have launched a pilot operation on Friday, Mar. 8 to send humanitarian aid to Gaza by sea.

The news about the pilot operation was shared by Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

The official mission is led by Cyprus and supported by the EU, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Greece, the UK, the US, and the UAE.

Von der Leyen said, "I would like to commend the particular effort of the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed, to mobilise support to activate this corridor by securing the first of many shipments of goods to the people of north Gaza."

The European Commission President revealed that the corridor is expected to be opened on Sunday, Mar. 10.

The mission has been launched in partnership with the World Central Kitchen NGO, which has been working with the UAE and is partnered with the Open Arms Fund to send food to Gaza.

The food aid will be delivered by hovercraft to a shipping dock controlled by the Israeli army.

Von der Leyen also emphasized that they would try airdrops as well to deliver aid to the people of Gaza.
