UAE Targets 30% Reduction in Food Waste by 2027

The UAE Food Bank has started an initiative to reduce food waste by 30% by 2027 as the bank shared its 2023-2027 strategy on Wednesday, June 7th.

The Food Bank is run by Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum, wife of the Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid.

The 2023-2027 strategy has been introduced to reduce food surplus in the UAE and overseas. The strategy will also help promote long-term planning, support local farming, and collaborate with local eateries, hotels, and food companies to donate excess food in order to reduce food waste.

The new strategy aims to divert surplus food from landfills and reduce food wastage by 30% in four years.

The food bank will run awareness campaigns in schools, government departments and private companies to educate people about reducing food waste.

Chairwoman of the food bank's board of trustees Sheikha Hind is also creating plans to ensure the distribution of food meals to people in need around the world.

The announcement of this new strategy follows the food bank's work in saving 908,145 kg of food from landfill during Ramadan in the UAE.
