UAE President Pardons Football Match Brawl Defendants

In a recent show of goodwill, UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has pardoned three individuals sentenced to prison for a brawl during the Egyptian Super Cup semi-final in Abu Dhabi.

The clash, involving fans of Egypt’s Zamalek and Pyramids clubs on October 20, led to heightened tensions during the game.

The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court had issued a one-month prison sentence along with AED 200,000 fines for each of the defendants, citing charges of assaulting public officials on duty and inciting unrest among fans.

The President’s decision, seen as a gesture to support stronger UAE-Egypt relations, underscores efforts to foster unity and cooperation between the two nations.

This high-profile pardon not only highlights Sheikh Mohamed’s commitment to diplomacy but also reinforces the UAE’s dedication to peaceful public conduct.
