The initiative aims to help released inmates regain stability, return to the right path, and reintegrate as productive members of society. It also provides emotional and financial relief for their families, aligning with the UAE’s values of giving and forgiveness.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered the release of 1,169 prisoners of various nationalities from Dubai’s correctional facilities. Authorities are set to implement this decision swiftly, ensuring joy for the inmates’ families.

Pardons Across the Emirates

Other emirates have followed suit, showcasing the UAE’s united approach:

  • Ras Al Khaimah: Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi ordered the release of 1,053 prisoners. The decision aims to help inmates start afresh and ease their families’ hardships.
  • Sharjah: Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi pardoned 683 prisoners, emphasizing the importance of good conduct as a condition for release.
  • Ajman: Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi ordered the release of 304 inmates who met the necessary conditions for eligibility.
  • Fujairah: Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi approved the release of 118 prisoners, based on their behavior and reformative progress.

Commitment to Reform

This nationwide act of mercy coincides with the UAE’s recent issuance of a Federal Decree-Law regulating penal and correctional institutions. The new law reinforces the role of these institutions in preparing inmates for reintegration into society, while safeguarding their rights.
