UAE Kicks Off First Phase of Blue Visa System

The UAE has officially launched the first phase of the Blue Visa system, a groundbreaking initiative recognizing sustainability pioneers. The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) announced the details at the World Governments Summit 2025, held in Dubai from February 11 to 13.

What Is the Blue Visa?

The Blue Visa is a 10-year residency visa designed for individuals who have made exceptional contributions to environmental protection and sustainability. The initiative aims to attract thought leaders, innovators, and advocates in sustainability, further solidifying the UAE’s commitment to environmental action.

Who Is Eligible for the Blue Visa?

The visa is awarded to individuals actively contributing to sustainability, including:

  • Members of international organizations
  • Professionals from global companies
  • Members of NGOs and environmental associations
  • Award-winning sustainability leaders
  • Researchers and activists dedicated to environmental work
  • Interested applicants can apply directly through ICP’s website or via nomination by UAE authorities.

First Phase: 20 Sustainability Leaders Recognized

In this initial phase, 20 sustainability experts and innovators will receive the Blue Visa. This move aligns with the UAE’s broader efforts to position itself as a global leader in sustainability.

How to Apply for the Blue Visa

The ICP has developed an electronic system that allows for easy application processing. Government agencies within sustainability sectors can submit applications for electronic approval through the ICP platform, following the approved procedures.

UAE’s Commitment to Sustainability

Dr. Amna Bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, emphasized that the Blue Visa aligns with the UAE’s long-term vision for sustainability leadership. She highlighted that this initiative seeks to attract top minds in climate change and environmental protection to help achieve national sustainability goals.
