UAE Denounces Israeli Minister’s West Bank Sovereignty Plan

The United Arab Emirates has issued a strong condemnation of Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s recent comments advocating for Israeli sovereignty over the Occupied West Bank by 2025.

The statement, released by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, underscored the country's unwavering opposition to any attempts to alter the legal status of Palestinian territories, warning that such rhetoric is both provocative and a threat to regional stability.

Highlighting its dedication to peace, the UAE emphasized that actions like these hinder progress towards a viable resolution. The Ministry reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to a two-state solution and the formation of an independent Palestinian state, calling on international partners to step up their efforts in fostering dialogue and maintaining peace.

The UAE also urged global powers to push for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further conflict and loss of life. The remarks by Minister Smotrich, who views 2025 as the year for cementing Israeli control over the West Bank, have raised alarms, especially as they came alongside his references to a potential shift in U.S. politics with Donald Trump’s potential return.

The West Bank has been under Israeli occupation since 1967, with Palestinians insisting on the territory as part of their future state and denouncing the expanding settlements as a barrier to peace.
