UAE Cancels EmSAT for Grade 12 Students

UAE authorities have canceled the EmSAT exam for Grade 12 students, introducing new university admission standards. Medical and engineering programs will now prioritize students' grades in specific science subjects rather than overall academic scores.

Greater Flexibility for Universities in Admission Standards

The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) announced this decision, aiming to give universities more flexibility to set admissions standards and create varied academic pathways. This move is part of a broader initiative to help students transition more smoothly into higher education and achieve their career goals.

Adjustments for English and Remedial Courses

Universities now have the option to admit students who haven't met the English language requirements. Students can enroll in language courses or remedial classes to reach the required proficiency or grade levels for their chosen fields.

Advice for Students and Parents

The ministries encourage students and parents to check admission requirements directly with universities, as each institution and program may have unique criteria.

Exception for American Curriculum Students

Students studying under the American curriculum are still required to take standardized tests like the SAT for mathematics and the TOEFL for English.

What is EmSAT?

Previously used as a benchmark for university admissions and scholarships, the Emirates Standardized Test (EmSAT) was a critical assessment of student skills across various academic levels in the UAE. Its cancellation marks a shift toward more flexible and specialized admission policies.

This policy update highlights the UAE’s focus on aligning education with the labor market, ensuring that students have the skills and support needed to succeed in their academic and professional paths.
