UAE: Al Nuaimi Makes History as First Emirati to Win at Asian Games

Sultan Al Nuaimi became the first Emirati boxer to win a match at the Asian Games in China on Monday, making history for the UAE.

Sultan Al Nuaimi knocked out Vanesy Heuangthisouan from Laos in the second round of their 51-kilogram weight class boxing match at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, to advance to the round of 16.

“This is the first win when it comes to UAE’s history in the Asian Games. Alhamdulillah, we did it and now looking forward to many more in the coming days,” the Emirati policeman, appearing in his second Asian Games, according to The National.

Sultan Al Nuaimi started boxing at the age of 24 and is now 30 years old. He competed in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, but was eliminated in the first round.

Sultan Al Nuaimi is an undefeated professional boxer who has won 10 fights in a row. He turned professional five years ago after winning two national championships. His last fight was a 10-round decision victory at Rising Stars Arabia in Abu Dhabi three weeks ago.
