From the slopes of Ski Dubai to the global stage, 16-year-old Amenah Al Muhairi is carving out a name in history as the UAE’s first female snowboarder to compete at the 2025 Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China.
Set to compete from February 7 to 14, Amenah is also the only female athlete in the seven-member UAE delegation, marking yet another milestone in her career.
Breaking Barriers in Snowboarding
What started as a holiday hobby at age eight has led Amenah to global recognition. She became the first UAE snowboarder to compete internationally at the 2023 Snowboarding Junior World Championships in New Zealand and later represented the country at the Youth Winter Olympic Games in South Korea.
Now, she’s gearing up for another first—taking on the Asian Winter Games.
“I am proud to represent my country at these massive events,” she told Khaleej Times before heading to China. “It’s a huge achievement.”
‘Moon’ Aims for the Stars
Nicknamed “Moon” by her coach, Amenah’s passion for snowboarding has only grown stronger. Training at Ski Dubai and traveling frequently for coaching in Austria, she has dedicated years to perfecting her craft.
Despite facing skepticism as an Emirati girl in winter sports, she remains unfazed.
“Some people react negatively, but I don’t care. Just do it, take the lead, and trust yourself,” she advises young girls looking to break into sports.
Competing for UAE Glory
Amenah will join fellow Emirati snowboarder Humaid Al Ansari, marking the UAE’s debut in snowboarding at the Asian Winter Games.
“I can’t wait to compete and meet my friends,” she said, excited about the challenge ahead.
With dreams of making it to the 2026 Winter Olympics, Amenah is determined to push her limits and master even more complex tricks.
“I’m aiming for the Moon,” she said. And at this rate, she might just land among the stars.
